First appearing as a subclass of the Fighting-Man in 1975, the Ranger way primarily inspired by Aragorn and the Rangers of the North from The Lord of the Rings. As half casters, Rangers have the versatility of specialized magic to enhance their martial abilities. Rangers were officially inducted into the ranks of main classes under the banner of the Warrior metaclass in the Player’s Handbook of 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in 1989.
